New Release: Chasing Thunder
Poems by Brett Bartow
We are proud to announce our first book of poetry, by local poet Brett Bartow.
Brett describes his collection:
The poems in this book were written over the course of about 20 years, starting in the early 1990s and going right up through 2011. When I sat down recently to dust off many of the older ones, I realized how well they chronicle my travels and relationships, struggles and revelries, the yearning to find and capture the thunder of life, the moments that insist you take notice and make you aware of the power we all have inside us to embrace something larger than ourselves.
I had not thought much about publishing these poems, because they were written mostly just to help me define myself. In the book Letters to a Young Poet, Rainer MariaRilke counsels his student, “If out of this turning within, out of this immersion in your own world, poems come, then you will not think of asking anyone whether they are good or not…for you will see them as your dear natural possession, a piece of your life, a voice from it. A work of art is good if it has arisen out of necessity. That is the only way one can judge it.”
These are my songs of necessity.
