Submission Guidelines
At Mélange Press, we are looking for the right book at the right time – hence, we are seeking the following qualities:
- Good writing
- Author passion
- Marketability
- Fiction: engaging characters, sustainable plot
- Non-Fiction: timeliness and timelessness, usefulness, accuracy
- Juvenile Fiction: suitability for age range, artwork
To submit a manuscript or book idea to us, please provide the following information:
- About the Book: working title; a short (1-3 sentences) summary; genre; anticipated length; illustrations and supporting materials (appendices, etc.)
- The Context: why this is the right book for this time; why you wrote it; your passion for the topic/project
- About the Author(s): a brief biography, including why you are the right author for this topic; your particular point of view; in the case of non-fiction, your authority on the topic; brief overview of your association memberships, education, career
- Who Will Read It: the intended audience – with specifics
- What Others Have Done: similar books on your topic; how your book differs
- Timetable: when you anticipate a completed manuscript; dates key to publication (such as a conference where you wish to promote/sell the book); any significant time constraints (such as a tax attorney being unavailable February thru April)
- Marketing Support: current and future media connections (such as a monthly article at a local paper); willingness to speak, be interviewed, train others, conduct workshops and demonstrations
- Sample chapters and/or outline; Sample illustrations as applicable
